Reform October

One calls reform of October ( of Oktoberreform ) the transformation of the political regime of the German Empire into parliamentary Régime in October 1918. The constitution of 1871 in its version resulting from the revision is called the constitution of October ( of Oktoberverfassung ).

The reform is due to the conviction of the supreme command of the army (OHL) that the war was lost and that Germany was to require a armistice with the Agreement. The OHL hoped thus that the armistice could be negotiated under favorable conditions, and also wished that the responsibility for the defeat was charged to the personalities and the parties which would arrive at the capacity.

The imperial institutions were transferred a few weeks after the reform by the Révolution of November. The Weimar Republic, new political regime of the German Reich, marked the installation in Germany of the parliamentary mode.
