Reeuwijkse Plassen

The Reeuwijkse Plassen form a whole of Lac S or pond S located at the east of Reeuwijk and the North-East of Gouda, in the province of the Holland-Southerner to the Netherlands.

Thirteen, the lakes are separate from/to each other by narrow Chemin S. the lakes are primarily of square form, which makes it possible to recognize old the Parcelle S of the Prairie S. the total surface area of the lakes is approximately 735 ha.

The lakes were created in the 18th century by the extraction of the Tourbe. At the beginning of the Village-street of Sluipwijk, one dug the Fagne until in lower part of the water level. The extracted peat was transported until Gouda, where it was used as Combustible with the Poterie S and the Brasserie S of the city. During the 19th century, the province of the Holland-Southerner developed a project for poldériser the lakes, which forever be carried out. July 20th, 1930, the provincial States définivement gave up any project of draining of the Lakes Reeuwijk.

Only the lake of Broekvelden/Vettenbroek is more recent: It was created in the Années 1970 in order to use the Sable for the construction of the highway A12 and the district of Bloemendaal with Gouda.

Nowadays, the lakes offer a place privileged for the Tourisme and the water sports.
