Redemption

The concept of redemption , of Latin Redimere (to repurchase), - is regarded as a mystery by the catholic religion ; it should be understood by there that its theologists declare themselves unable to include/understand it or explain it, although they think his existence attested by the canonical texts.

According to this concept, a suffering would be never useless in oneself, but would contribute to the hello is of the person who suffers, that is to say of one or of a quantity of others by some process which would be unknown for us. What does not imply that this suffering should be sought, but simply not to regard it as useless when it occurs.

He is regarded as only likely to explain and justify Passion Christ. If not, indeed, what good is that-ci ?

The idea also takes a dimension in the concept of Communion of the saints.

Extracts

  • "Those which died in the pain will raise in the joie" (Apocryphal book of Ier front century J-C)

  • Jesus: " Happy the unhappy ones, happy those which are hungry and thirst for justice"

the concept of Redemption is not regarded as a mystery (even if it is a dogma) as such by the theologists. Indeed, a Mystère would be an unexplainable dogma of faith by the reason.

For example the existence of the Holy Trinity, a God in three distinct people and whose each person is completely God without confusion between the three… This is a mystery. Or, another example, the Immaculate Conception, dogma of faith according to which the Blessed Virgin remained intact of any stain of the original sin as of her design (and thus, is the only human being in this case)…

Redemption, of Latin " redimere" = " racheter" , is not a mystery as such, because it can be included/understood.

Indeed, God having created the man for his own glory and the happiness of this one, gave him the freedom . The man indeed was freely to deserve the happiness of the sky, by concern for justice . However this freedom is the weakness of all creation; it is a gift with double edge: one can or to make use of it to love God, or to refuse it!

It was the Original sin where Adam and Eve chose to disobey God in the hope to be independent (" about it; You will be like dieux" , Lucifer blew to them).

Since, the man while being born is not endowed any more with the supernatural grace which returns the accessible sky to him. Indeed, a supernatural end for natural beings requires the use of a supernatural means.

How thus to repair offense?

This offense was infinite since it reached God himself, infinite. To repurchase the men, deserving only the hell, God himself was offered in the Person of the Son, for " racheter" men. Its acts being those of God, had infinite value.

And God wanted that this plane Redemption was used to show the men at which point He liked them. And like " there is not a greater proof of Love than to give its life for its amis" , Jesus, i.e. God linked with a human nature, wanted to suffer all that a man can suffer ici-bàs (treason, pain, distress, tiredness,…) and to die of dead painful and the most ashamed.

The prophets of the Old Testament had announced It like a suffering Messiah: " it with the appearance of a ver" , " they counted all my os" , " they cut down the whip on my back offert". He wanted to be the last of the men to prove to the men his Love. God made the experiment of the Suffering and death, him which is Pure spirit.

The theologists say that Jesus-Christ is " cause méritoire our salut". It is what we have just seen.

They also say that it is " cause exemplaire" of our safety: i.e. it shows us which is the perfect Christian life.

It is the second application of the word redemption, compared to us.

Because this Redemption that Jesus-Christ came to achieve can apply to us only with our assent, in accordance with the freedom which was given to us. So that nobody deserves the sky or the hell wrongfully. But " it will be returned to each one according to its œuvres".

To gain the sky, the means is simple. not need for exaggerated mortifications… It is enough to believe in a creative and remunerative God (redemption), (" without the Faith, no one cannot like Dieu"), to practice its law : to make the good, to avoid the evil.

However, imperfect and being involved more easily with the evil since the original sin, we make sins all the same. These sins were already repurchased by Jesus-Christ, but to deserve forgiveness of it, we should regret .

For that, it is enough to offer the sufferings of the days . thus, even the most terrible sufferings can be regarded as a " large grâce" , since they deserve us the Sky.

Here is, this concept of Redemption, at the same time in the direction of God who saves, and in the direction of our participation in the work of our own redemption. A law of love for which it is necessary to conform our freedom.

All can be run away, even the worst criminals, them so created to love God, since they regret and repair.

In the Catholic religion, the redemption passes through the Blessed Virgin Marie, Mère of God.

Opinion of Paul Valéry

Paul Valéry is critical with respect to this concept, in Such as it is :

  • “You suffer, - it is for . You suffer, therefore you pays. You buy, you repurchase. Strange trade. This idea was born thus after the trade, and among mercantile tribes”.

It develops then the topic:

  • “And there are discounts, futures markets, bill of exchanges. Christianity inserted God even in these markets”.
