Red dykes

The red Gouines are a radical movement Féministe lesbian.

The “red Dykes” were founded in April 1971, answering a will to affirm itself at the same time in the middle of the feminist movement and the homosexual movement, as with the fear which the lesbians were likely to disappear from it.

History

In April 1971, the Liberation movement of the women exists since two years and half. Three hundred women regularly coming to the general meetings from the Art schools then launch a campaign for the Avortement and the free and free Contraception.

The homosexual Face of revolutionary action, radical movement rejecting the reforms in favor of homosexuality considered to be insufficient or timorées, was created one month before, on the initiative of militant of the M.L.F and some militants of association Arcadie.

“Alliance between the girls of the MLF and the Pédé S of the FHAR” appeared obvious whereas nobody called in question the co-education of the FHAR. The members of the two movements felt victims of the “Phallocratie” and wanted the “free provision of body”. Anne-Marie Fauret, in the n°12 of All , summarizes this position thus: “Our place is with the intersection of the movements which will release the women and the homosexual ones. The capacity that we assert is that to carry us out. ”

But the publication of number 12 of All , where for the first time of homosexual of the two sexes publicly spoke in a newspaper of extreme left, makes rock balance between the sexes on the side of the men. Flowing with the FHAR, the lesbians feel there marginalized, and the number of these last remains appreciably the same one. The militant feminists feel dispossessed of the FHAR.

It is finally against the “Misogynie” of the FHAR that militant lesbians meet in the amphitheater of the Art schools. Around fifty the militant ones, whose age varies between twenty and thirty-five years, found the Red Dykes. The name would have been taken again invective of a hostile passer by at the time of a demonstration.

The movement is made known with propaganda brochure distributions at the entry of the boxes of women, with Pigalle, and at Moon . In June 1971, a festival with the Markets is organized “to celebrate in the joy the beginning of our revolt, to leave our ghettos, to live our love at the great day finally” (leaflet).

The group separates shortly after from the FHAR to join MLF like abstract newsgroup. Y are launched or discussed of the concepts such as “becoming lesbian by policy option”. The Red Dykes affirm themselves in within the MLF, with “ happenings ” in the general meetings, with topics as “the lesbians are women? ” or “our problem is also yours”, or during the “Days of denunciations of the crimes against the women”, behaviors with the Mutualité the 12 and June 13rd 1972. The meetings of the Red Dykes were then spaced, in spite of the encouragements of Monique Wittig.
