The Red district of Castle , in the XVIIIe district of Paris, is located on the side of the ridges Montmartre. It is crossed by the Barbès boulevard and the Ligne 4 of the Parisian subway, both on a North-South axis. It is part of the district of the Goutte of Gold
It is a district very animated in day, heteroclite and cosmopolitan, characterized by a strong population of African origin (and in particular originating in Ivory Coast). A crowd of markets, grocers and hairdressers African are open there all the year. With the beginning of the year 2000 and the request of the inhabitants of the district, the sanitary services of the town of Paris carried out controls which established that 80% of the food sold in these shops were unsuitable with consumption. The weekend, of the hundreds of customers of the exotic market occupy the neighbouring streets. The district knows problems of prostitution and drug trafficking (ace and cannabis in particular).
The Barbès boulevard separates there the district from Drop-in Or of the Montmartre hillock strictly speaking.
The place of the Castle-Red holds its name of the small castle, known as Red Château, built for Gabrielle d' Estrées, become ball public and demolished in 1875.
