Red and green alternative
The Alternative red and green (AREV) was a French political party, ecologist and of left, formed in 1989.
Its three pillars founders were the Socialisme, the Autogestion and the ecology.
Resulting to some extent of the committees supporting the renovating Communist Pierre Juquin (compounds of PSU, LCR, the New left for socialism and self-management and of not inserted militants) with the presidential election from 1988.
A good part of the former members of the PSU, dissolves in November 1989, and of the New left resulting from the Juquin committees take part then in the creation of the AREV. The party counts more than 6.000 members to his creation, but ends little by little up being absorbed by other organizations (Verts, LCR, associative) because of the lack of political outlet and the very unit strategy of this organization. In 1998, the AREV counts nothing any more but 300 militants.
To escape a political death in the short run and to open a space for a party ecologist anchored to the left of the left, the AREV and a dissidence of the Convention for an alternative progressist found the Alternative March 29th 1998 the.
The newspaper of the AREV invited Rouge and Green, and continuous to be the newspaper of the Alternate ones.
In parallel, the young people of the AREV take part in 1996 in the creation of Chiche!, youth movement also gathering the young people of the Greens, Convergences ecology solidarity (THESE) and the Convention for an alternative progressist (CAPE). The goal was to gather the young ecologists in the same organization, preceding a gathering in a new party ecologist and of left of the organizations mother. This strategy will not succeed since the Alternate ones and the Greens will not amalgamate and that the Jeunes Greens will decide to make scission in 2001 to create their own youth organization.
