The Red Ensign (or “Red Duster”) made its appearance at the beginning of the 16th century like sign raised by the Royal Navy. The exact date of its first use is unknown but receipts indicate that the navy paid the clothes industry of such flags in the Années 1620. It is currently used like civil sign of the the United Kingdom.

It is thus raised by the trading vessels or of pleasure English as well those which come from London as of Gibraltar or of the Cayman Islands and of all the British territory of overseas.
