Red Cloud

Red Cloud , (in Sioux: Makhpyia-luted in French red Nuage ) born in 1821, dead the December 10th 1909 is a chief Sioux.

Chief of the Indians Sioux Oglala S, it is not wire of chief but becomes it for its courage and its temerity. It gains many battles and encourages many Sioux chiefs has to make in the same way during the “War of the Red Cloud” as it directs from 1866 to 1868, war which aims at the withdrawal of the armed forces of the Bozeman track, the track of the Montana which crosses the territory Sioux. By the treaty of Strong Laramie in 1868, it obtains the abandonment of the strong soldiers along the Bozeman track as well as territorial guarantees on a reserve of 240.000 km ² (including/understanding the Western part of South-Dakota, the north of Wyoming and is of Montana). In 1876 and 1889, the Sioux were however forced to concede most of this territoire.
Red Cloud will take share neither with the confrontations of 1876, nor with those of 1890-91. He dies in 88 years in the reserve of Prick Ridge (South Dakota).
