Red
The red is a Couleur which answers various definitions, according to the chromatic system of which one makes use.
It is one of the three primary colors of the additive Synthèse (including/understanding the red, the Vert and the Bleu). Its complementary Couleur is the sharp Cyan RVB (kind of turquoise obtained by mixture of the Lumière S Vert E and Bleu E).
In subtractive Synthèse (which is the system of restitution of the colors in the Imprimerie or the Imprimante S color) it is a made up Couleur obtained by mixing the Magenta and the Jaune with 100%. Its complementary Couleur is the Cyan.
Its opposite Couleur is the Vert. The daltoniens of the type III confuse the Vert and the red.
It is the color which excites more the cone L of the human eye.
The Wavelength Moyenne of the red Lumière visible is from 630 to 700 Nm.
Symbolic system
The red is ambivalent in the symbolic system Occident ale:

Origin of this symbolic system
It resides mainly in the fact that the red is the real color of blood, the muscles, the Bouche, of the lips, of the blood poured by the enemy, the heart (at the same time muscle and blood pump), as well as fire which crépite, embers.
