Recyclor

The recyclor is a sophisticated apparatus of diving, offering a greater autonomy to the user.

Description

The recycleurs are used in Plongée underwater in the place of the traditional bottles of diving.

The recycleurs with the pure Dioxygène are composed of a bottle of this gas, of a pocket which will contain the breathed mixture and a cartridge of lime, the other recycleurs have also a bottle of gas diluting, filled of Nitrox, Héliox or Trimix.

Whereas the bottles of deep-sea diving are opened systems, the recycleurs can be used in half-closed circuit (of the bubbles are slackenings with regular interval in water) or closed circuit (no bubble is slackened)

Principle of operation

The plunger breathes normally on the end which it has in mouth. At the time of the expiry, the air is not slackened in the medium but is stored in the pocket then the CO2 is fixed chemically in the lime cartridge present in the apparatus. The balance of remaining oxygen can thus be re-used by the plunger which inspires this purified air of its CO2.

Advantages and disadvantages

Advantages

  • the time of diving is increased considerably for an obstruction are equivalent (since one consumes less gas).
  • times of stages are decreased.
  • Out of water the material is much lighter.
  • While being quiet, it is possible to approach the fauna of much more close
  • One breathes a gas hot and wet (reaction of lime) what decreases the calorific loss
  • It does not have there a phenomenon of lungs ballast. In other term, one is permanently balanced (null buoyancy)
  • According to the apparatuses and the configuration, it is possible to plunge deeper with less stages and less heavy material (many bottles of additional helps)
  • the absence of rejection of bubbles (in closed circuit) is very snuffed by the underwater photographers.

Disadvantages

  • the use of this type of apparatus requires a specific training.
  • the accidents with this type of apparatus less forgive (Hypoxie/Hyperoxie vs narcosis with open circuit)
  • the volume of air of the plunger-apparatus remains constant (the breathed gas is either in the lungs or in the respiratory bags); it is thus more difficult to go down, the principle of the lung-ballast not existing with the recycleurs. This point is a little disconcerting at the beginning and requires one period of adaptation to find palliatives enough (e.g. to go down out of duck, to breathe on respiratory bags slightly filled, etc)
  • a still high price
  • a “pointed” use which requires rigor in the organization of the diving (calculation of Bailout, drive with the emergency procedures, etc)

Some precautions for use before/during/after a diving

  • Checking of the sealing of the bags in depression and overpressure before the diving.
  • Test of calibration under oxygen (operation of the injector, of the electronic system of management of Po - pressure partial of oxygen - at the beginning of diving according to recommendation of the manufacturer)
  • not to make return of water in the breathing apparatus (precautions when or given the end is removed)
  • Rincer to fresh water respiratory bags after each diving. To disinfect the unit each 3/4 days
  • To let dry the apparatus after each use/rinsing
  • To change the lime cartridge according to recommendation of the manufacturer (or his practices)
