Recruit (sport)
Recrue is a sporting term which means “young professional” or “beginner” and normally appoints a sporting athlete who is at his first year as professional. The Anglicism Rookie is sometimes used, especially with the Basket-ball.
Before signing its first professional contract, the player is a Prospect of the team as from the moment when its rights belong to the team.
He is rather current to reward the players in their first year in the league by a trophy. Thus in the National league of hockey, the winner of the vote of better player of hockey of the season receives the Trophée Calder.
