Rechiaire

Rechiaire (or Rechiarius , in Galician, Requiario ) was the king of the Royaume suève of 448 until its death in 456.

In 448 - 449, it marries one of the girls of the king Visigoth Théodoric Ier, in spite of this last campaign in 446 against Suèves at the sides of the Romans.

The marriage takes place in Toulouse. On the way of the return, Rechiaire plunders Saragossa and appendix Ilerda.

At the request of the emperor Eparchus Avitus, the king Visigoth Théodoric II attacks the Suèves in 456 and crushes them close to Astorga, on the Rio Orbigo, on October 6th. Taking the capital suève, Braga, it makes captive Rechiaire and carries out it.

As from this moment and until its reunification under the reign of Rémismond, the kingdom suève was divided into two parts separated by the river Minho:

  • the part in the south of the river, under wisigothe influence, is directed by Agiulf, placed at the head of this part of the kingdom suève by Théodoric II.

  • the part in north of the river, always under influence purely suève, is directed by Framta.

These " two royaumes" deliver a war without mercy which goes perdurer until the reunification in 464.
