Rech Lakich
Rabbi Chimon Ben Lakich , also known under the name of Rech Lakich , is a Amora (doctor of the Talmud) galiléen of.
Brother-in-law and preferred disciple of Rabbi Yohanan, many his sentences and opinions are brought back in the Talmud of Jerusalem, like that of Babylon.
Biography
Born in Ground from Israel, undoubtedly with Tibériade, he studied the Torah in his youth but moved away from there for perhaps material reasons. Known for its great physical force, it rented its services like Gladiateur. It was one of the trades most scorned in the Judaïsme and one of most dangerous. It became famous like gladiator with Césarée and elsewhere.The Talmud tells in the treaty Baba Metsia how it found the way of the Torah by meeting Rabbi Yokhanan. This one bathed in the the Jordan when he saw Rech Lakich and was surprised by its physical force. He says to him like compliment: " Your force would be worth well to be dedicated in Torah." However Rabbi Yohanan was very beautiful and Rech Lakich answered him: " Your beauty would be appropriate better for a femme."
The two men had a promise, Rabbi Yohanan promised in Rech Lakich that he would marry his pretty sister and Rech Lakich promised repentance and to devote from now on its energy to the study of the Torah. Rech Lakich turned over to the house of study (Beit Midrach) and one saw that its spirit was as powerful as its muscles.
Rech Lakich and Rabbi Yohanan were supplemented very well in the study of the Torah. One day when Rabbi Yohanan says to him: " The brigand should be an expert in brigandage" , it was affected, fell sick then died. Rabbi Yohanan died him also shortly after. It was the end of the time of Talmud of Jerusalem.
