Analyzes
Considering that the majority of the groups of Ska festive Punk try to forget the lightness of their kind, Reality Big Fish of Orange County (California) do not forget it. Carried out by Aaron Barrett, much of people criticized them. Those which reproach them their lack of originality, they answer while leaving a hit, Everything sucks in It for the money . The group leaves second individual, Sell out . They wanted to show that they were not a group without interest, even if they acknowledge that they make music to be diverted. After the success of Everything sucks , Reel Big Fish was contacted to go on the label Mojo records, which left Turn the radio off . Thereafter, they started to be made known Ska-pop scene and made great festivals like Warped turn; one also could see them in BASEketball with Trey Parker and Matt Stone (creators of South Park). With a mixture of autodérision and small pockets inspired of groups pop of the 80' S, they could be praised to have made a beginning blazing on Mojo Records. The disc following EP, Keep Your Receipt , with new pieces, vidéos clips and plays. The group added small fronts heavy in its music. Even the team of Baseball, Florida Marlins, adopted the song Trendy , Everybody' S doin' the fish, yeah, yeah, yeah like cry of gathering of the team.
With their second album left in 1998, Why C they rock'n'roll so hardware? , Reel Big Fish does not seem to have left its autodérision to the cloakroom, with titles like Everything is Cool (surely an answer to their clean Everything sucks ), The kids gift' T like it , Down in flames and what could be a homage to the second singer of the group, Scott' S.A. Dork . And in 2002, they leave Cheer up! , album largely criticized by the fans of the first hour who do not find there as many any more song-gags, car-derision, grinding pants and spangles. The group will acknowledge later that it was attached by its label, and that felt on Cheer up! like on We' Re not Happy Til you' Re not Happy , which is located in the line of Cheer up! . On the other hand, if l'" esprit" is less perceptible, it is the care taken to the quality of the compositions which is proposed, as well as the sound which is remarkably worked. On these albums are also reproduced of the well-known titles like Good Thing , Where cuts you been , has little doubt goes has long way for Cheer up and Don' T start has band , The Bad Guy and Last Show for We' Re not happy …
Their Live album of 2006 is dissociated from the quality of the service like that of the recording. All is perfectly harmonizes some to give a high level album. The decorated whole of some jokes and other improvisations which makes it all the more subtle.
The year 2007 marks a turning for Reel Big Fish, which off separates from its label following various tensions as for the exit of a best remixé and remasterized whose group did not want. Finally this separation is being a good news for the group which again finally says itself to be able to make the music that they like without any restriction. It is what they in any case try to do with the exit of Monkeys for free and chimps for nothing which leaves during the summer 2007, and which is indeed again perfectly in the tone " décalé" that one knows to them. They passed a good part of their year to be turned with Less than Jake and Streetlight Manifesto aus the USA.
