Reactable

A réactable (ReacTable) is an electroacoustic musical instrument, created with the Université Pompeu Fabra of Barcelona. Björk uses it in concert. It is connected with the Ondes Martenot.

Description

The réactable is actually an interface which makes it possible to modify the components of a modular Synthétiseur. It is appeared as a round surface having to the center a point (the exit of the sound), on which one has the blocks representing each element of the synthetizer. The elements are connected between them virtually as in an electrical circuit. The player can modify their interactions while varying the distance separating two elements connected, the frequency of the signal while making swivel the element, the amplitude by moving his finger around the element… A camera located in backhander makes it possible to analyze the provision of the elements, as well as the movements of the fingers of the player. A projector emits luminous effects thus creating the connections between the elements, but also of the reflections which the camera will be able to detect as being an object.
