Re-recording

French " Re-recording (; réenregistrement") is a technique which allows a singer or with a musician, at a session of recording of a disc, to separately record its services on several tracks which will be rejouées at the same time, allowing the artist various artifices of studio such as doubling its voice, exploiting several instruments at the same time same piece etc…

Some famous artists having used Re-recording

  • Charles Aznavour on the song " My emmerdes" , in which he sings in duet with itself.
  • Renaud on the song " Why initially " , where Renaud imagines a dialog sung between him and a child interpreted by itself with a falsetto voice.
  • Gerard Manset on " Kingdom of Siam" in which the voice of the singer is systematically doubled. It should be noticed that Manset used this system of doubling of its own voice on much of others of its songs.
  • Santana has which it sometimes happens to exploit the same piece of the guitar flamenco and the electric guitar. He does not play about it simultaneously, but the transition from one instrument to the other should be so fast that it would prevent a recording neat studio.
  • Beatles whose each member of the group often played of several instruments on the same disc.
  • the Beach Boys which doubled their vocal harmonies, giving to the listener the impression which the members of the group were twice more numerous than they it were actually.

The list is far from being exhaustive.
