Resignation of the Magistrature

In 1880, it is 33 years old and it resigns of its functions of substitute of the Public prosecutor to protest against the policy anti-nun of the French government, during the expulsion of the Congregations:

Condom, November 6th 1880. Mister it Minister of Justice, Sincerely convinced that the decrees of the March 29th are sullied with abuse of power, as established it in an irrefutable way our more eminent jurisconsults, and than they especially constitute for the administration a means diverted to deprive the legal authority, only and last safeguard of the property right and inviolability of the residence, I regard as a duty to resign my functions, to which I was however deeply attached. To preserve one day more would seem to imply of my share an adhesion, at least tacit, with measurements which my conscience rejects. I thus do not hesitate to break my career, though I did not have to lend my effective contest to the acts which have been just achieved in the district of Condom. Consequently, I have the honor to address to you my resignation of the functions of substitute close the court of this district. I have the honor to be, with respect, Mister it Minister of Justice, your very humble servant. BARRAU. ”.
