Raymond Poulidor
Raymond Poulidor (born the April 15th 1936 with Masbaraud-Mérignat, in the department of the Digs) is a runner cyclist French entered the legend as “an eternal second” of Jacques Anquetil in the years " 60" then of Eddy Merckx in the years " 70". At the 20th century, it is one of the most popular personalities in France. At the beginning of the 21e century, “Poupou” still starts applause nourished at the time of its passages within the caravan of the Tour de France.
Professional cyclist between 1960 and 1977. It thus could run with Louison Bobet, Jacques Anquetil, Eddy Merckx and Bernard Hinault. It is in contract with “Cycles Draper” during all his career, under various denominations: “Draper-BP” (1960-1967), “Fagor-Draper” (1970-1971), “Gan-Draper” (1972-1976) and “Miko-Draper” (1977).
The competition Jacques Anquetil - Poulidor is one of the great oppositions of the French sport of the Années 1960. With in point of organ a combat neck and neck on the slopes of the Puy de Dôme in the Turn 1964. The Merckx competition - Poulidor intervenes in the years " 70". " Poupou" gain a historical victory in Paris-Nice 1972 but inclines itself in the Turn 1974 in spite of a victory with Pla-in Adet.
Winner of 189 races whose Milan-San-Rémo, Vuelta, the Nations, classified n°1 world with the Super prestige, Raymond Poulidor forever gained the Tour de France 14 participations, nor even carried the yellow jersey would be this one day. Winner of 7 stages on the Lathe, it fails 14 seconds of the yellow jersey at the top of Puy de Dôme in 1964, or 8/100 of second at the time of the prolog of 1973!
" poulidoristes" affirm that it should have gained at least 3 Turns of France, without its falls and punctures in 1964, the help " étonnant" of Anglade with Gimondi in Ventoux in 1965, and especially the motor bike which reversed it in 1968, forcing it to give up in Aurillac whereas the victory was promised to him.
Excel even exceptional in coast, very good wheeler, it gains on all the grounds. It misses the technique of the sprint and undoubtedly a little defect to enrich its prize list more. But according to Antonin Magne, its first sport director, Raymond Poulidor had all the virtues of the champion, in particular that never not to make a pact with a foreign runner with its team.
Nonconcerned by doping in 17 years of career, it is one of the runners more the races of the years " 60" and " 70". And also one the most admired of. As if the public had understood that it was located in the sphere of largest failing to have known all the dedications.
In 2004 left its memories Poulidor by Poulidor with complicity Jean-Paul Brouchon and the foreword of Eddy Merckx.

Quotations
- In connection with the Tour de France 1971, in which it did not take part: “I preceded it in order to recognize the course and to give my impressions to a radio. But never I did not feel so foreign in my medium which is that of the bicycle and the competition. ” (source: The Cycling team, June 1974).
Anecdotes
- Raymond Poulidor forever carried the yellow jersey (légence obliges) nor that with pea (created only in 1975 in its end of a career), but it covered the green shirt at the time of the first stage of the Turn 1973 having finished second of the prolog. The photographs of poupou as a better sprinter of the Turn are a collector.
- It could not have carried the white shirt of the best young person (if there had existed in the years " 60") because it was already 26 years old at the time of its first participation in the Turn, having had to make 2 years and half of military service before engaging its professional path.

"Poupou" is the eleventh cyclist to be gone up on the podium of a stage of the Tour de France at least 10 years after a first victory of stage. It is by gaining the 16th stage of the Tour de France 1974 (its 7th) between Seo de Urgel and Saint-Lary-Soulan that it joins again with the victory seven years after his 6th victory of stage and 12 years after its first success on the Grande Boucle.
Jean Alavoine, Henri Pelissier, Philippe Thys, Louis Mottiat, Andre Leducq, Antonin Magne, Rene Vietto, Gino Bartali, Andre Darrigade and Jean Stablinski are the first to have made a success of this exploit. Then they are Felice Gimondi, Gerben Karstens, Ferdinand Bracke, Joaquim Agostinho, Lucien Van Impe, Lance Armstrong, Richard Virenque and Cédric Vasseur which is illustrated in this prize list.
