Raymond Eddé

Raymond Eddé (1913 - 2000) lawyer and Lebanese political leader. Wire of Emile Eddé (President of Lebanon 1936-1941), which it succeeded the head of the national block in 1949.

Elected at the Parliament in 1953 there remained appointed of Jbeil until 1992. He was the initiator of several laws of which most important are those on the bank secrecy, the buildings of luxury, the account joint and that on illicit enrichment… .IL was minister on several occasions (1958-1969). HE resigned in 1969 following the attack by the Israeli aviation of the civil aircrafts of MEA on the tarmac of the Aéroport of Beirut. He then claimed the presence of the blue helmets of the United Nations between Lebanon and Israel.

Defender of freedoms, it opposed firmly the interferences of the second Office of the army (service of the information) in the political matters of the country. Only, with the deputies of its party, he refused to endorse the Accords of Cairo (1969) which gave, inter alia, right to the Palestinian combatants to carry out an armed struggle against Israel starting from the south Lebanon.

Partisan of democratic Lebanon, Raymond Eddé worked for Lebanon ground of fraternity and peaceful coexistence between all his communities. Thus, he refused to take share with the civil war of Lebanon (1975-1990) and condemned very reached to the sovereignty of Lebanon including those emanating from Palestinian. He was opposed to the Israeli occupation and denounced the supervision of Damas on Lebanon as from 1976.

Following several attempted murders, it was exiled in Paris in 1977 when it continued its political action and diplomatic whose vital objective was to recover the sovereignty of Lebanon. He died with Paris the May 10th 2000, 15 days before the withdrawal of the Israeli troops of the south Lebanon. Called the " conscience of Liban" , Raymond Eddé dedicated all his life with the policy in order to recover sovereign and independent Lebanon.
