Analyzes of its work

One of the features most characteristic of the photographic work of Raymond Depardon is the claim of the subjectivity of the photographer and to its will to photograph “idle periods”, it in what it is detached from the school of the humanistic report European of Cartier-Bresson and approaches to the American school and the photographers such as Walker Evans and Robert Frank. Its most significant work, the collection Notes published in 1979, is composed of a hundred photographs accompanied by texts written with the first nobody, between the journalistic requirement, i.e an outside world and the autobiography, the interior world.

Its last work Photographies of political personalities still illustrates this step: Raymond Depardon seeks to photograph the political personalities in the authenticity of their action, by adding his glance to it: To show the loneliness of the political personality is in the center of my work .

According to him, the golden age of political photography is between the end of the yoke former to May 1968 and 1982. It is the era of “the photograph of contact”. He sees during the current period a return to the “hateful” tendency of the beginnings of the V {{E}} République with the absolute control of the persons in charge of the communication.

Beginning 2006, Depardon exposed to the European Maison of photography in Paris its Portrait S of political personalities.

The same year, he is the invited police chief of the International meetings of the photography of Arles (37 of the name) of the July 4th to the September 17th 2006.
