Biography

His/her parents divorce whereas it is five years old (they are remarient in 1955) and it leaves with his mother with the U.S.A, to California, where his/her paternal grandfather has a hotel. It has a sister, Geraldine Mary Fuller (born in 1920, deceased in 2001) and a brother, James Edmond Burr . It is sent to the Military academy of San Rafaël but must leave it whereas it is only 13 years old in order to provide the needs of its family, touched by the Great Depression. Its big size and its imposing breadth enable him to find odd jobs, usually reserved to the adults, but it will make also singer of cabaret. At 19 years, it becomes acquainted with the realizer Anatole Litvak who allows him to work during the summer in the medium of the theater.

Engaged in Navy during the Second world war, Raymond Burr is wounded at the end of two years then repatriated at his place. He then begins small roles with the radio then with the cinema. He will be revealed by the character of Lars Thorwald in famous the Fenêtre on court of Alfred Hitchcock.

In 1955, Raymond passes a hearing for the role of Hamilton Burger , the district attorney of the novels of Erle Stanley Gardner. This last, present at hearing, will recognize at once in the actor that which must play Perry Mason . The series is a success.

In 1967, Raymond Burr begins new detective series which will gain an enormous success: the Iron man. It will incarnate this role during eight years, then at the time of an ultimate telefilm " The return of the man of fer" , in 1993.

In 1977, Raymond Burr incarnates R.B. Kingston , a press baron, in the series Kingston: Confidential but the latter will last only one season (15 episodes).

Reached of a cancer of the colon which will degenerate, Raymond Burr will finish his life in a wheel chair and will die out finally on September 12th, 1993, in his ranch of Sonoma (California) not without to have turned three Perry Mason in addition to the telefilm " The return of the man of fer". He lived with his friend and colleague, Robert Benevides, with whom he shared 35 years of his life.
