Raymond Aubrac

Raymond Aubrac , from his true name Raymond Samuel , was born the July 31st 1914 with Vesoul in an Jewish family. Civil engineer of the Bridges and Chaussées (promotion 1937), it engages with his wife Lucie since 1940 in Resistance to Lyon by taking the pseudonym Aubrac in order to escape persecutions from the occupant. In the sides of Emmanuel d' Astier of Vigerie, it takes part in region of Lion in the creation of the Movement Release-South which will federate with Combat and the ftp to form the secret Armée, during resistance to the occupation Nazi of France, at the time of the Second world war.

Biography (1914 -)

Years of resistance

In 1943, Raymond Aubrac then forms part of the staff of the secret Armée (ACE) under the authority with the Général Charles Delestraint. It is stopped by the Lyons police force on March 15th, 1943, then slackened. Lucie organizes, perhaps with her husband, the escape from the hospital of Antiquaille of their companions Serge Asher (pseudonym: Ravanel), Maurice Kriegel-Valrimont (Fouquet-Valrimont) and François Morin says Marchal (alias Forestier). June 21st, it is again stopped, this time by the Gestapo, with Caluire, with Jean Moulin (pseudonym: Rex or max) in particular. Moreover are stopped: the doctor Frederic Dugoujon, their host of the Castellane villa, Aubry (Avricourt and Thomas), Bruno Larat (Xavier-Laurent Parisot), Lassagne (Lombard), colonels Lacaze and Schwartzfeld (Blumstein). Rene Hardy (alias Didot) manages to flee under discussed conditions which make it suspect of treason.

In September 1943, Lucie Aubrac, is made pass for a Médecin during a few days, time to make contact, at the hospital of Saint-Etienne with four resistant arrétés in this city, casualties, of which Robert Kahn, (chief of the WALL of the Loire, and brother of Pierre Kahn-Farelle, Pierre-of-False papers) and to organize on September 6th a Exfiltration of the four resistant ones with a Commando of forgery supposed Gestapiste S to lead them to a Interrogatoire.

Aubrac is imprisoned with the prison of Montluc of Lyon. Refusing to leave her husband to the hands of the Torturer X Nazis, Lucie Aubrac assembles an operation armed to release it. She went to see several times, the 28 or June 29th and in September, in person, the chief of the Gestapo to Lyon, Klaus Barbie, and requested it to let it see his alleged been engaged of which she was pregnant and to authorize to them Mariage in prison. At the time of this visit, it forwarded to him the plans of the escape. It is during a transfer, on October 21st, 1943, that Lucie and her companions attacked, boulevard of the Swallows, the German Camion, in which fourteen resistant were of which his/her husband. Four German was killed during the attack and the resistant ones managed to escape.

After this escape, Lucie, Raymond and their son enter the Clandestinité. They will manage to join London in February 1944, where Lucie will be confined at once of their second child. The film Lucie Aubrac realized in 1997 by Claude Berri, reports these escapes.

To the June 6th 1944 it is delegated to the Consultative Assembly of Algiers; August 6th, 1944, a decree of the C.F.L.N names it Commissaire of the Republic for the zone which will be released by the unloading in Provence programmed for the next on August 15th (what is equivalent roughly speaking to the role of Regional prefect
