Raymond Appert

Raymond Appert (October 4th 1904 - April 17th 1973) Resistant in the FFL, Brigadier general French and Companion of the Release. 1

Years of training

  • October 10th 1904: birth of Raymond Paul Etienne Appert with Saint-Quentin in the Aisne.
  • 1925 : it enters to Saint-Cyr military school, Promotion " Morocco and Syria "

The Second world war 1939-1945

  • June 17th 1940: then Captain and assistant of the general Legentilhomme with Djibouti, it sends a telegram to the general Wavell, commander-in-chief British, meaning that " the French Army in Djibouti does not accept the armistice"
  • August 2nd 1940: it leaves the coast of Somalis with the general Legentilhomme and the Essars captain to reach Aden
  • at the end of October 1940: it rejoins the Free French Forces with the Legentilhomme general with Khartoum where this last takes the command of the Free French Army to the Sudan and in Érythrée with for mission also of trying to bring back Somalis in the war
  • April 1941, ordering it Appert is sent with the lieutenant-colonel Brosset and the captain Magendie to Somaliland to contact the French Coast of Somalis and to collect information. It is a question of being had if the rallying of the territory in free France is possible without Franco-French confrontation but the mission fails.
  • July 1942: Promoted lieutenant-colonel, it is one of the principal craftsmen of the rallying of the French coast of Somalis in December 1942. By its tough action, it contributes largely to the rallying of the major part of the garrison
  • December 31st 1942: Named Companion of the Release by the General de Gaulle
  • 1943: It then organizes in Africa the regiment of AEF and Somalis of which it takes the command.
  • April 21st 1945: Within the Brigade Medoc, Raymond Appert seizes the villages of Saint-Vivien and of Bruised, carrying out its unit until the reduced last of German defenses of the Low register Point.
