Ray Manzarek is an American musician . He was clavierist in the group The Doors.

Biography

Raymond Daniel Manzarek was born the February 12th 1939 with Chicago in the State from the Illinois.

He receives a piano for his 9 years, but he immediately did not start to play about it. Four years later, it starts to take lessons and takes taste there. It leaves then to Los Angeles to follow studies of art, music and cinema. It meets there Jim Morrison and Robby Krieger, with which it takes part in the group The Doors, as a clavierist.

Ray had already a past of musician, having belonged to the group “Rick & The Ravens”. In the group The Doors, it brought a special key by introducing a keyboard into an rock group. It had the characteristic to play the basic parts of the left hand (on Fender Rhodos Piano Low silver signal: posed on its principal keyboard), while playing part of piano traditional to the right hand (on Continental Vox: , then Gibson G101: after having broken the plastic keys of its Vox…).

Its play of keyboard is found particularly in that of Dave Greenfield, clavierist British of the group The Stranglers.

After the separation of Doors, it starts to record albums in solo (see below). He worked also with Nice City and produced the group Punk X.

He reforms Doors in 2002 with Robbie Krieger and the singer Ian Astbury, under the name of The Doors off the 21st Century, then Riders One The Storm.
