Career

Ray ferraro evolved/moved for six different franknesses during its career eighteen seasons in the LNH. After a two years passage in the Western Hockey League with the Winter Hawks de Portland and the Wheat Kings de Brandon, it began its career professional with late the Whalers de Hartford (become since the Hurricanes of the Caroline) when those made of him them 5th choice with the fishing out of entry in the LNH in 1982 (the 88e choice on the whole at the time of this vintage). Besides it had to wait the year 1984 before being called by the large club, it shared this first experiment in the LNH and also with their club-school, the Whalers de Binghamton of the American Ligue of hockey.

At the time of its first complete season with Whalers, it registered 77 points in 76 parts, which classified it the second best marker of the club behind Sylvain Turgeon. To final, it will have passed a six seasons total and half with Hartford, including a personal top of 41 goals lasting the season 1988-89. It passed to the hands Islanders of New York after 15 parts of played to the season 1990-91, in return of the defender Doug Crossman.

With its new team, it had at the beginning less time of play than before because it found with a quite affluent club players of center. It was satisfied with a role on the third line whereas the first two centers in front of him, Pat LaFontaine and Brent Sutter collected the merit to be in at the head of poster. Fortunately for Ferraro, Islanders exchanged in court of season these two players and Ray then found the center number 2 of the club behind the newcomer Pierre Turgeon and succeeds in producing 40 goals and 80 points at its first complete year with Long Island . However, the wounds slowed down its race and it of being satisfied with only 27 points in 46 parts at the time of the following season, in 1992-93. It took again beautiful way returned in spring and made it possible Islanders to cause the surprise of the series by eliminating the champions from the Coupe Stanley at the time of the two former seasons, the Penguins de Pittsburgh. Islanders and Ferraro reached the semi-finals for the first time since 1984, year of their last conquest of the cut. They transfer their hope unfortunately to fly away when it were demolished by the team which will be later declared champion: Canadian of Montreal. Ferraro contributed all the same to the height of 20 points collected in 18 meetings.

It reached at the time of the two following seasons the mark of the 20 goals and this although at the time of the second time, the season 1994-95, considering being curtailed with 46 matches due to a “ in [[lockout]] ”. At summer 95, he became autonomous player and then signed a contract with the close team with the Isles , the Rangers of New York.

He still played there the part of second center, this time, behind prolific the Mark Messier. He marked all the same 54 points in 65 matches before having to leave to join the Kings of Los Angeles at the time of a transaction major which sent it, like Ian Lapérrière, Mattias Norstrom, Nathan LaFayette and a choice of 4th round (Sean Blanchard) to the quoted of the angels in return of Marty McSorley, Jari Kurri and Shane Churla. This transaction affected it because it was found then with a team in rebuilding.

It spent the three seasons which followed with Kings but was only in full health that only at the time one year and it was never able to reach once again the personal marks which it had establishes before. In 1999, its fascinating contract end, it also believed that it was that of its career. It could prolong few years its career thanks to the Thrashers of Atlanta which at the time of their arrived in the LNH offered a contract to him and it was thus found, with Nelson Emerson, and as a veteran to play a big role of leader for the young wolf of the formation.

In 1999-00, the first seasons of the club, Ferraro successful to be maintained in health and took part in 81 matches of the Trashs , collecting 44 points, which placed it second better marker of the club. the season which followed was a resurrection for him: with like partner of trio Andrew Brunette and Donald Audette, it registered 29 goals, its higher total since 9 seasons, and obtains 47 assistance, its best total of master key since 1986. Their trio was one of most productive league this year. But before the end of the Audette season will be exchanged and Brownish will pass to the Wild of Minnesota a few times later.

Without these partners of trio, Ray Ferraro will not be able to know a season again dreams as it had just lived. At the time of the season 2001-02, the frail veteran will count only 8 goals and 27 points for Atlanta before being exchanged late in the season with the Blues of Saint-Louis in return of a choice of 4th round (Lane Manson).

The exchange of Ferraro to Saint-Louis was to offer a last chance to him to gain the Coupe Stanley. With their first wounded center, Doug Weight, Ferraro became immediately a key player accumulating 6 besides goal and 10 points in 15 meetings, proving last once that surrounded well, it was capable of large things. At the time of the series, it was credited with the 3 mentions of assistances, but the Blues could not give him the possibility of knowing as a player the feeling to play in the final of the Coupe Stanley. He announced officially his withdrawal of the competition on August 2nd, 2002.
