Ratsimilaho

Ratsimilaho is a sovereign at the origin of the great confederation of the Betsimisaraka, occupying the major part of the Eastern littoral of Madagascar. Ratsimilaho which was born about 1690 was the son of an English pirate of the name of Tom Tew and Rahena, a woman of the ethnos group anteva, occupying the current area of Mananara. After a short stay in England where his/her father wanted to educate it, it returned to Madagascar to take at once the head of Anteva and other people of north in order to push back the invasion of Tsikoa and Varimo, of the people of the south led by king Ramanano. At the end of these wars, Ratsimilaho became the supreme king of all the people named for the circumstance “Betsimisaraka”, by taking itself the name of Ramaromanompo, “that which is been useful per many people”. After its death in 1754, it divided its kingdom between his Zanahary son-in-law, of origin Sakalava, and its Betia daughter (the “Betty” of Europeans, who was going then to marry with the French corporal Shapes it) who will give up his sovereignty on the island of Holy Marie or Boraha in France.
