Raphaël Bischoffsheim

Raphaël-Louis Bischoffsheim , born with Amsterdam the July 22nd 1822 and died in Paris the May 20th 1906, is a banker, Politician and Mécène French, founder of the Observatoire of Nice.
Wire of the banker Louis Bischoffsheim, naturalized French in 1880, it is appointed of Nice of 1881 with 1885 and supports the republican ministries of Jules Ferry and Leon Gambetta.
Impassioned Astronomy, it finances the Observatoire of Paris, the Observatory of the Parc Montsouris and the Observatoire of the Peak of the South and founds the Observatoire of Nice. He is elected free member of the Academy of Science in 1890.
