Raoul of the Grove
Raoul of the Grove , hermit then founder of order; named Radulphus de Flageio by Dom Morice, probably in consequence of a bad reading.
Biography
He was initially monk with the monastery of Saint-Jouin-with-Marnes, known then under the name of monasterium Heresiense . He embraced then the eremitic life in the forest of Craon with Robert d' Arbrissel and remained to him associated like with Vital with Mortain in all their works. Bernard de Tiron joined them so, known as its biographer, to form with them four the quadrangular base which was to carry from so vast buildings. Like Robert d' Arbrissel and at the same time (towards 1100), Raoul founded in the forest of Nest-of-Blackbird an abbey doubles whose abbess had the government, as well of the monks as of the nuns. A score of priories were founded when he died the August 16th 1129.Its body was deposited in a small arched vault of the abbey church where Albert Large the known as to have seen at the 17th century its tomb and that of Aubert , his/her companion.
