Raoul Small

Raoul Petite is a group of French music created in 1979 with Apt in the Luberon (Vaucluse).

History

After having ensured the first parts of concerts of Jacques Higelin and Pierre Vassiliu in 1981, the group starts to occur in concert solo, in particular with the Olympia (1984, 1989), with the Casino of Paris (1986), with the Elysium Montmartre (1991), with the Bataclan (1995) and on many scenes of France and besides (Switzerland, Belgium, Spain, Italy, Hungary, Canada). Clips or extracts in concerts are also diffused on television, in the Echo of the Bananas on FR3. The first album leaves in 1984 and will be followed from eight others, including one live ( Plus extremely the guitars ) and a compilation of pieces of the beginnings also recorded in public ( Untraceable the ).

In 2005, a DVD accompanied by a compilation recalls the Great History of Raoul Petite .

In spite of many rehandlings, the group is always in activity. Its head of prow is, since the beginning, the mythical singer Christian Picard, called " Paperboard ". The other pillar of the group, the guitarist/author/type-setter Frederic Tillard, left the group some share in 2003, and thereafter founded the group Fritzkartofel with the trombonist Fabien Cartalade, who had contributed to the disc Rire it is not serious in 1998.

Attempt at presentation

If Raoul Petite knew to create its own style, in turn qualified “barock' N roll” or of “sophisticated agricultural rock'n'roll”, certain influences are undeniable, in particular that of Frank Zappa to which it is explicitly paid homage in various albums.

The group associates humorous, engraved and shifted texts, with métissés airs, alternating the fronts arabo-reggae with the pieces plus hardware, the anthems folk-rock'n'roll with the Slavic rengaines. It especially went celebrates for its concerts of a style unclassable, surrealist and interactive, which inspired good number of more recent groups.
