Raoul Coutard

Raoul Coutard , born the September 16th 1924 with Paris (France), is a Director Réalisateur and of the photography of Cinéma French related to the movement of the New wave.

Biography

Born in Paris, Raoul Coutard follows studies of chemical engineer before becoming press photographer. He covers in particular the war of Indo-China for Radar, Life and Paris-Match.

After having made its beginnings of operator chief of cinema with With each one its paradise (1956) of Luciano Emmer and Robert Enrico, it starts a long collaboration with Pierre Schoendoerffer, for which it photographs in particular the 317e Section (1964) and the Crab-drum (1977).

Its work noticed on Breathless (1960) of Jean-Luc Godard made of him the operator chief more for the New wave. As director, Raoul Coutard carried out Hoa-Binh (1970), an evocation of an episode of the war of Indo-China, the Legion jumps on Kolwezi (1979), a glorification of the French military intervention in Zaire, and SAS in San Salvador (1982).
