Raoul Cabrol
Raoul Cabrol (1895 - 1956), draftsman and journalist caricaturist that Churchill regarded as " the first caricaturist of France" , known for its caricature of Hitler and to be " the Daumier of the 20th siècle".
Biography
It was born on March 12th, 1895 with Curlande, close to Bozouls (Aveyron). In 1920, it passes its first drawing to the “ Journal of the People ”. It was in 1921 photographic retoucher at Mr. Manuel photographer appointed of the members of Parliament and director of a gallery of Article In 1922, this last organizes his first exposure: 110 caricatures and drawings are gathered and presented under the title: “Masks and smiles”. the Minister for the State education governs varnishing. The exposure gains a very sharp success. The doors of the draftings open: Small Parisian the, the Morning, the Intransigent. The foreign newspapers request it: The NewYork Times, Life, The Grafic, The Sketch, Berliner To illustrate, the Evening of Brussels. In 1926, it is called by his/her friend Paul Valiant-Dressmaker, and gives up of other collaborations to enter to “Humanity”. It will never accept however the chart of the Communist party. In 1939, it gives its resignation and collaborates in the “Canard Enchaîné” and “Work” of before the defeat.Sought by the Gestapo for its famous caricature of Hitler published in a Luxembourg newspaper, it takes refuge with Rodez, it became again photographic Retoucheur, takes part in the Résistance to the sides of Doctor Rene Lachet. With the release, it must with this last escape the arrest by members from the PCF. After the war, it enters to “Franc-Tireur” and returns to the “Canard Enchaîné”, refusing the gold bridges of Humanity.
He dies on September 13rd, 1956 in his house of Quincy-under-Sénart.
