They are plants herbaceous (some shrubs and lianas), annual or perennial, rhizomateuses or tuberoses, cold areas with tropical, with a maximum in the moderate areas of the Northern hemisphere.

In France, one can quote the kinds:

  • Aconitum , which includes/understands the Aconit Napel
  • Anemone , which includes/understands the Anémone Sylvie common in the underwoods.
  • Aquilegia , with the Ancolie S
  • Caltha , with the Populage of the marshes.
  • Clematis , with the white vine ( Clematis vitalba ) and the horticultural Clématite S.
  • Delphinium , with the Dauphinelle or foot of lark
  • Hepatica nobilis , with the hepatic one with three lobes
  • Helleborus , with the stinking Hellébore
  • Ranunculus with the Button of gold ( Ranunculus repens )
  • Trollius , the trolle S of the mountains.
In the gardens of the moderated areas, a great number of decorative varieties belong to this family.

  • Glaucidioidées (in the past Glaucidiacées) with Glaucidium palmatum originating in the Japan.
  • Coptoidées with 17 species in 3 kinds.
  • Isopyroidées with 450 species in 9 kinds.
  • Ranunculoidées with 2025 species in 46 kinds.
