Rangjung Dorje
The 3rd Karmapa, Rangjung Dorje (1284 - 1339)
Rangjung Dorje was born in Dingri Langkor. It revealed a black crown left nowhere at three years, and announced that it was Karmapa, and said to his young friends that they took pleasure in the mondanity. At five years, it went to see Drubtob Urgyenpa, which had dreamed of him the night before and who prepared with her visit, and saw that it was the reincarnation of Karma Pakshi. The 3rd Karmapa grown with Tsourphou, where it did not accept only the transission Kagyu supplements, but also that of the tradition Nyingma. The 3rd Karmapa at that time accepted the instructions of all the Buddhist traditions existing. He studied with large Masters like Trophu Künden Sherab, Nyenre Gendün Bum and several others. After having spent some time on the slopes of the Everest in retirement, and after to have then taken complete ordination, it more largely supplemented its studies with an important seat of teaching Kadampa.
The 3rd Karmapa had an intense thirst to learn from the largest scholars and experts from his time. Its approach embraced all the traditions of knowledge and it had an intelligence and a sensitivity which enabled him to assimilate and to compare all that it studied. Through its visions, it accepted the lesson of the " coil temps" (Kalachakra), and it introduced a reformed system of astrology. He studied and controlled medicine. In particular, its control of the deep lesson Nyingma of Vimalamitra which he had learned, meant that in him, the Mahamoudra kagyu and its equivalent Nyingma, the Dzogchen, became one. At the end of its studies, he had learned and controlled about all the Buddhist lesson which had been brought of India to Tibet by all various the two period old Masters: the old one and that of the restoration. In the light of this eclectic wisdom, it composed of many significant texts, of which most famous could be " the deep significance intérieure" (zab.mo.nang.don), which stresses the true gasoline of the Vajrayana.
He visited the China and placed Toghon Temur there on the throne: its disciple, the new Emperor. Thanks to an elixir of long life received of the 3rd Karmapa, which turned over to Samye especially for getting to him, the Emperor was that which lived longest of all the Mongolian Emperors of China. The 3rd Karmapa establishes many monasteries with the Tibet and in China. He died at the fifty six years age in China and there remains famous to be appeared on the moon the night of its demise.
