Dr. John T. Ramsay , born the February 21st 1925 with Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, is a former American trainer of professional Basket-ball in National Basketball Association.

After having involved in college and in leagues minor just after the war, he became trainer of his faculty, the Université Saint Joseph, in 1955. At the time of its first season, Ramsay led Hawks to their first Philadelphia Big 5 and to their first tournament of post-season (in NIT). Ramsay continued until in 1966, leading Hawks to six others Big 5 and ten participations in post-season on the whole.

Immediately after having left Holy Joseph, it was engaged as managing general Philadelphia 76ers, which gained title NBA title as of its first season in the frankness. In 1968, it left the direction to become trainer of Sixers. At the time of its four seasons as a trainer, it led the team to three participations in play-offs. After the season 1971-72, it took the direction of the Buffalo Braves. Its services were there almost identical to those with Sixers: three participations in play-offs in six seasons.

Its next destination in NBA was most famous, with the Portland Trail Blazers. When it arrived in 1976, the Blazers had not taken part in the playoffs or had not carried out an positive assessment during the six years of their existence. However, it arrived at the head of a young team, carried out by Bill Walton, and which profited from the draft of expansion following the disappearance of the American Basketball Association in 1976, in which the Blazers choisissèrent the winger-extremely Maurice Lucas. At the time of its first season with Portland (in 1976-77), Ramsay led the Blazers to their only and single title NBA title to date. He was also the trainer in 1978 of the Western selection to NBA All-Star Game. Ramsay involved the Indiana Pacers at the time of season 1986-87 before taking its retirement. At that time, it was in the second place of the trainers in term of many victories of the history of NBA, behind Red Auerbach.

Ramsay on television spent then nine years as a commentator for the matches of the Philadelphia 76ers and the Miami Heat, and commented for ESPN with the TV and the radio. Dr. Jack worked for Miami Heat of 1992 to 2002. During this period when Ramsay was commentator of Heat, he imagined some memorable nicknames and of the small pikes for the players of Heat.

Ramsay was established with the Basketball Hall off Famed as a trainer the May 11th 1992. It was named among one of the 10 best trainers of all times in 1996.

He was also the author of some books, of which The Coach' S Art (ISBN 0-917304-36-5) and Dr. Jack' S Leadership Injure Learned From has Lifetime in Basketball (ISBN 0-471-46929-7).

Ramsay is graduate college Upper Darby (UDHS) in 1942. It accepted its diploma in social sciences of the Université Saint Joseph in 1949, and a diploma in doctorate, in education, Université of Pennsylvania in 1952 and 1963, respectively.
