Rampjaar
The rampjaar (in French, disastrous year ) refers to 1672, the year of all the disasters for the United Provinces. Directed by the Large-boarder of Holland, Jean de Witt, the republic must face the concerted attack of the France, of the England, of évêché of Münster (Westphalia) and of Cologne. A Dutch saying describes well general apathy in the republic “ reddeloos, radeloos, redeloos ” (about: “without hello, hope, head”).
