Ramie

The ramie (also called “nettle of China”) is a Plante Textile of the family of the nettles used for the artisanal production. 6000 years of use do of it one of the oldest fiber plants used.

Scientific name: Boehmeria nivea (L.) Gaudich. VAr. tenacissima (Roxb.) Miq.

It makes it possible to obtain up to six harvests per annum and is originating in the Far East.

Ramie is not solely used like a textile fiber, but also like plants decorative in Asia. It has sheets in the shape of heart.

Today, ramie is mainly cultivated in China, Brésil, Filipino, India, South Korea and Thailand. It is also cultivated with the the United States of America.
