Ramón Mercader
Jaime Ramón Mercader del Río Hernández (February 7th 1914 - October 18th 1978) is a communist activist Spanish, agent of NKVD, assassin of Leon Trotski.
Biography
Ramón Mercader was born with Barcelona in 1914, but passes most of its childhood in France with his/her mother, Eustacia María Caridad del Río Hernández, after the separation of his/her parents. In its youth, he is convinced by the communist ideas and helps of the left organizations in the Spain of the medium of the Années 1930. He briefly is imprisoned for his activities, but is released when the republican government seizes the power in 1936.As from this moment, his/her mother, Spanish of cuban origin, being a Soviet agent and marksman charged to assassinate the trotskystes Spanish, it followed her steps, going to Moscow before the bursting of the Guerre of Spain, to involve itself with sabotage, the techniques of Guérilla and the Assassinat of the trotskystes. One gives him “Gnome” like code name.
In 1936, Léonid Eitingon, henchman of Lavrenti Beria, load its mistress, María Caridad, to assassinate Leon Trotski, which had left the Soviet Union many years rained early following the power struggle with Joseph Stalin, but which had continued to be opposed to this one in its writings and by creating the Fourth International. The oldest son of María Caridad having been killed in Spain, it entrusts the mission to Ramón Mercader. In October 1939, Ramón Mercader arrives at Mexico City with a false passport in the name of Jacques Mornard, business man.
An elaborate trap developped at the point by him and other agents of the NKVD fail Mexico City the May 24th 1940, and a second attempt is envisaged. Ramón Mercader having remained more discrete lasting the first attempt, it binds with Sylvia Agelov (СильвияАгелофф), the secretary of Leon Trotsky. With its mediation, it starts to meet Leon Trotsky personally, being made pass for a Canadian admiror of his ideas. The August 20th, it wounds mortally Leon Trotsky using an ice axe in the office of its house of Coyoacán (a district of Mexico City). The bodyguards are ready to kill it, but their chief orders to let it live: “Do not kill it! This man has a history to tell. ”
He is delivered to the Mexican authorities, to which he refuses to give his true identity. Pleading the crime passionnel, he is considered to be guilty of murder and is condemned to twenty years of prison. It is only in August 1953 which its true identity is discovered, and its connections with the NKVD are not revealed that after the fall of the Soviet Union.
After its first years in prison, he asks a release on word, which is refused to him by the doctor Jesus Siordia and the criminologist Q. Cuaron. He is released from the Lecumberri prison of Mexico City the May 6th 1960 and goes to Havana, where the government of Fidel Castro accommodates it. In 1961, it leaves for the the USSR and is made Héros of the Soviet Union, knight about Lénine, and worked at the Institute of the Marxism-Leninism. It passes the remainder of its life between this country and Cuba on behalf of the KGB and as an adviser of Fidel Castro, and dies with Havana in 1978.
It is buried, under the name of Ramon Ivanovich Lopez, with the Kuntsevo cemetery of Moscow and has a place of honor in the museum of the KGB in this same city. ---- The writer Thierry Jonquet, at his beginnings as an author of whodunnit, wrote three novels under the pseudonym of Ramon Mercader .
