Ralph Vinton Lyon Hartley (November 30th 1888 - May 1st 1970) is an electronic researcher in . He invented the Oscillateur Hartley and the Transformateur Hartley, and contributed to the base of the Information theory.
Hartley was born in Spruce, Nevada, with the the United States and studied with the Université of Utah, receiving a A.B dismantles in 1909. It integrates the Oxford Université in 1912 and B.Sc dismantles in 1913. He was married in Florence Vail of Brooklyn the March 21st, 1916.
He returned to the United States or he employed to the research laboratory of the Western Electric Company. In 1915 it was responsible for the Développement of radio operator receiver of the transatlantic tests of radiotelephone of the system of Bell. It developed the oscillator of Hartley and also a neutralizing circuit. A patent for the oscillator was classified the allotted on June 1st, 1915 and the October 26th, 1920. He later worked directly at the Bell laboratories, after the First World War. It carried out research there on Répéteur S, the voice and the transmission of carrier. He formulated the law “the entire amount of information which can be transmitted is proportional to frequency and the transmitted period band of the transmission. ” After approximately 10 years of disease, it returned to the laboratories of Beautiful in 1939 as an adviser.
It was withdrawn in 1950 and, is deceased on May 1st, 1970.
IEEE Medal of honor ANGER, 1946, for its law of proportionality of oscillator and information. It was a reward of the institute of engineers radio operator IRE who later amalgamated in the institute of the electric electronics engineers IEEE; the reward became the IEEE medal of the honor.
