Rally of regularity
A rally of regularity is a car rally where the objective is to approach an ideal time as much as possible to carry out a definite way. The mean velocity is generally lower than 50 km/h. These competitions are rather reserved for old vehicles. It is rare to be able to take part or be classified in certain tests for vehicles of less than 25 or 30 years. If speed is not an element of selection, the navigation and the meticulous respect mean velocity are it. In certain tests of international level like the Historical Monte Carlo Rally, the Rally of the Historical Acropolis times of passage are taken with better than the tenth of a second.
These Rallys can be organized under two different principles. The first under rules defined by the French federation of Sport Automobile (FFSA) in agreement with the rules of the International federation of the Car (TRUSTED). The second answers rules fixed by the French federation of Vehicles of Time (FFVE).
The rallys type FFSA VHR and standard FFVE are organized on open roads.
The rallys type FFSA VHRS are organized in " doublure" of a rally, generally regional.

The rally of regularity….
English , TSD rally: Time, Speed and Distance; all is in the title!
It is an automobile test where the competitors evolve/move on generally open road (. .ouverte with all!) and respect the highway code. Not question top speed but rather mean velocity and navigation, it acts well here of regularity. One imposes to the participants an average, which can be a function of the age of the car, choice of the crew of 40, 45 or 50 km/h and especially of the organizer.
Each crew includes/understands a pilot and a navigator. The key to success resides in a welded team knowing very exactly what each one must do. Incidentally a well prepared car will be able to help to make the difference.
The cars leave every minute for a secret tour from 300 to 500 kilometers held, on small roads in full shift. The crew leaves with a good road-book which one will have checked coherence, some instruments of navigation primitive (stop watch, tables of average out of electromechanical paper and tripmaster - especially not of electronics - the work of the navigator would be too easy, but nevertheless a computer is authorized). The course breaks up into a truck driver or stages of connection and special or sectors of test of regularity. For the truck driver the constraints are rather low: to arrive before the assigned time (which generally leaves time to supply and make small maintenance), in the event of delay the penalties are weak, whereas in the event of advance and especially of strong advance, the things are different.
For the special ones or sectors of test of regularity, one receives at the last time the information of the average to respect (style 44,75 km/h), without always knowing where the true starting point of the test and the stopwatch is, nor check-points surprised in full medium with this one and even less the point of arrival. One arrives nevertheless at a pointing of end of special but the stopwatch is perhaps already fixed for a certain time ...... Thus one can be timed constantly, even without the knowledge of full sound liking.
One must always be pile with the average imposed on the moment given. It is what makes it possible to establish a classification which is done by addition of points of penalty. So by misfortune one is too fast, one accumulates the penalties rather quickly even the disqualification. On a small notebook of pointing which accompanies the car and its crew are noted all the significant events: departure, arrival, delays, penalties and even infringments distributed by the constabulary.
Seldom the test comprises straight lines, they are always rather laces, rises, descents and pins. When a village is crossed, the target average falls to 30 km/h, therefore is thus necessary to calculate its average and to be readjusted on its road book….At this point in time the calculators crush, the instructions fuse: “still 4 km, one leave special, one is 15 seconds too quickly, supply in 12 kilometers…. ”. It can also happen that one crosses and some think of being misled and that becomes a pretty rout.
The difficulty it is navigation. There are very many changes of management, indications sometimes a little players, codes (SIDE announces a level crossing, not a zone of hunting.). One should not especially be let distract and be mistaken. When one is mistaken, it is very hard to return there or one should be and if one falls on a control surprised ...... it is worse .....
Compared to the average given and at time that one should have made, one collects points, the goal of the play, it is to have some the least possible to gain. Generally a minute in advance causes twice more penalty than one minute of delay. A passage at a check-point to back generates less penalty than a not-passage…
Each organizer has his small rules to make this competition one moment sympathetic nerve. This type of event proceeds on one even two days. The budget is rather variable. The registration fee varies from 300 with 700€.
The vehicle
Generally old of more than 25 years. In good state, it will have passed an official technical control before the legal deadline, the organizer will be essential to remake one of them, plus succin, in the hours which will precede the departure. It will have of a technical passport or a card of identity or a pass. It will be equipped: of a warning triangle, of an extinguisher, a jack and a spare wheel. Other safety members can be claimed by the organizer or the local legislation (waistcoats fluo, case of help, cellphone)
Types of test
Test governed by the French federation of Sport Automobile FFSA: obligatory license either at the year or just for the test. Two families of test-
VHR : Convey Historique Regularity: test on opened, average road total lower than 50 km/h, generally organized only.
-
VHRS : Convey Historique Sporting Regularity: certain parts of the test proceed on closed roads. On these special and only on those there, the average can be slightly higher than 50 km/h. It will be also requested from the crew to carry each one a helmet approved during these special on closed roads. This kind of test is organized in “lining” of a regional rally, current or historical vehicles.
Test governed by other organizations: special payment of the organizer or the organization on which it depends. In all the pilot cases and navigator must have a driving license. And in all the pilot cases, navigator and car must be assured. In all the cases also, the test will have to be the subject of an official authorization.
There exists a championship of France and a championship of Europe of rally of regularity. The best crews are Belgian and Italian….
