Rakhigarhi

Rakhigarhi or Rakhi Garhi is a village in the district of Hissar (29,17 NR - 76,07 E) of the State of the Haryana in India located at some 150 kilometers of Delhi.

In 1963, the archeologist Indian Acharya Bhagwan Dev. discovers the site and his/her colleague Suraj Bhan confirms that the village is located on the site of an old city of the Civilization of the valley of Indus. In fact, it appears made up of three layers corresponding to three periods, primitive, principal and late of this civilization. It is thought that the site was inhabited until the Koushane period, that is to say towards 100 after J. - C. the true exploitation begins in December 1997, the Archeological Survey off India proceeds then to an excavation revealing a city of more than 2 km ² of surface and updating a great quantity of objects, some having more than 5000 years of age.

The population of Rakhigarhi at the time of full sound development is estimated at 50.000 people, perhaps more if the surface of the site appears more important than envisaged.

One discovered in Rakhigarhi of the paved streets, a system d' sewerages for the treatment of waste water, but also of collection and storage of rainwater, of the workshops of production of bricks and terra cotta statues as well as work of metal, Bronze and noble metals. The Joaillerie was practiced there, in particular the manufacture of terra cotta bracelets, out of gold and semi-precious stones, mother-of-pearl of shell. One also discovered there a copper hook, a balance and his weights like various ustensils. The city was perhaps located on banks of the Sarasvatî.
