Raised Officers of the Flight crew, French Air force.

Die EOPN is the second possibility of selection of the pilots of the air force. Often criticized as being an accessibility to the body of the officers of the air, it is however the principal die of recruitment of the military flight crew.

Recently the air force opens its selection with the women. The Air force is indeed the body more feminized French Army with more than 20% of manpower.

This selection opens to the old candidates of more than 17 years and less than 22 years, and French nationality.

The major difference between the officers resulting from the contest of the Flying school and the Officers resulting from selection CSAA resides on their career-advancement opportunity. The latter are OSC Officier Under Contract (20 years with more), ORSA Reserve officer in Situation of Activity. In this direction they are specialized in piloting or navigation and will not have the possibility of holding of the headquarters. Of this fact the evolution of the ranks is done much more slowly.

Nevertheless the advantage which the CSAA proposes is to open the selection starting from the baccalaureat of mainstream education or technological. The selection is however more severe. The CSAA not being a contest, the selection thus consists in determining if the candidate has on the one hand the reflexes and the aptitudes of a sailing future and on the other hand if this same candidate presents a maximum of chances to succeed.

One distinguishes two types of flight crew. Pilots (drives out, transport, helicopter), and the Navigator Officer System of Weapon - NOSA - (drives out, transport).

The selection is done in two times:

Initially a selection called to the " sol" who is held with the CSAA (Center of Selection of the Air force) on the Air base of Brétigny.

If the candidate is selected, it is convened in a Center of Medical expertise of the Flight crew (CEMPN) in order to undergo a complete medical visit there. Will be established the SIGYCOP and the pilot profile.

If the candidate is suited, its file is sent to Tours in the center of selection. A commission will meet to judge the whole of the acceptable candidates and according to the needs armed to retain the best files.

In the second place a selection called in " vol" will retain the pupils being likely the most to become pilot soldier. selection does not take place any more since January 2006.

The pupil joined the Air base of Living room in order to begin his formation. Progressively of his course and according to his file, the pupil will be directed or towards transport (BA of Avord) or towards hunting (BA of Turns), and or pilot or NOSA.

SELECTION ON THE GROUND

SELECTION IN FLIGHT

Air base of Cognac Châteaubernard (BA709), Cognac (16)

Suspended since the beginning of January 2006, it was divided into two phases:

1. The instruction ground It includes/understands the training of the characteristics of the TB30 Epsilon, the plane of the EPAA (the Flying school of the Air force) within the EETIS (the Team of Technical education and Specialized Instruction) with a test at the conclusion. It also includes/understands a series of 4 simulators intended to prepare the pupil with air work.

2. Flights The program: basic piloting, navigation, stunt-flying. 7 for the pilot pupils and 4 for pupils NOSA, they premettent to evaluate the capacity of the pupil to becoming flight crew soldier.

FORMATION ON THE GROUND

Air base 701, Living room-of-Provence (13)

Initial Military Formation (FMI)
From one 4 weeks duration, it is held within the Special Course of Training of Officers (CSFO). The pupils make the training of the elementary military concepts there: the discipline, the knowledge of the organization of the air force, the shooting with FAMAS etc… It ends in the presentation with the flag of promotion.

General Military Training of Officer (FMGO)
The pupils put look further into the knowledge acquired during the IMF, and follow moreover one introductory course to the command as well as a training course of training of the elementary techniques of survival. The instruction with the shooting is directed towards Pa FARMHOUSE G1, the handgun of the flight crew. At the end of the 5 weeks of formation, the pupils carry out a test of 2 days synthesis.

the ATPL
With an aim of satisfying the European regulation of the AESA (European Agency of the air security) the pupils integrate then the Center of Instruction Ground of the Flight crew where they follow 9 months of course of preparation in the passing of the ATPL (Air Transport Pile License). Fourteen matters are taught there: Air law, Cell driving circuit, Systems of edge, Mass and centering, Performances, Préparation and followed flight, Human factors, Météorologie, Navigation, Radio navigation, Procedures operational, Mécanique of the flight, Communication VFR, Communication IFR. This stage marks the beginning of the aeronautical formation.

FAMI (Initial Military Air Formation)

Registered in the formation of the EOPN since 2007, it consists of a first approach with military piloting on TB10 at the base of Living room of Provence. This formation lasts in theory 3 months, must take place after the training course of English and before the ATPL and finishes with releasing pupil. It is useful has a first evaluation of the capacities of the pupil in vol.

TRAINING IN FLIGHT

This stage of the formation promotions separate, the pupils control turn over to cognac within the EPAA or in certain cases join the Division of the Flights of Living room; pupils NOSA integrate the School of Training of the Navigators of Combat (EFNC) The recruitment of the pilots of helicopter is random, it is done according to and the availabilities of the ALAT and the needs for the air force.
