Raimond-Berenger III of Provence

Pierre of Barcelona, born in 1158, dead the April 5th 1181, was count de Roussillon and of Cerdagne of 1162 with 1168 (under the name of Pierre de Cerdagne , then count de Provence of 1173 with 1181 (under the name of Raimond-Berenger III of Provence ). He was wire of Raimond Bérenger IV, count de Barcelone and of Pétronille Ramirez, queen of Aragon.

At the time of the minority of a preceding count, regency had been exerted by his/her uncle Raimond-Berenger IV of Barcelona, which is sometimes entered among the counts of Provence. It follows that the count Raimond-Berenger III is sometimes numbered Raimond-Berenger IV .

He accepted with dead from his father Cerdagne and Roussillon, but when his/her older brother Alphonse II recovered the county of Provence in promising to him, he yielded his counties in 1168 to his Sanche younger brother. He never seems not to have controlled these two counties. Alphonse gave him Provence only in 1173.

In 1176, it tried to conquer Nice and Genoa with his/her Sanche brother. It entered then in war against ls lords of the Languedoc and Raymond V, count de Toulouse. I lfut assassinated close to Montpellier by henchmen of Adhémar de Murveil.

Contrary to what is indicated on several interwiki, it is not him which married Rixa of Poland, but his/her first cousin and predecessor Raimond-Berenger II of Provence.
