Railcar at high speed

The AGV , or Motorized High speed , is a Projet of Train at high speed of the company Alstom. Successor of the TGV of which it takes again one of the characteristics first TGV, the articulated oar (axles inter-cases), innovates in particular by his motorization distributed and gives up the concentrated motorization: more motor coach, the bogies are distributed along the oars; allowing to optimize space and to reduce the mass of the trains. It should enter in service in 2010.

AGV is a Registered trademark of the company Alstom .

Objectives

The aim in view in the design of these oars is multiple:
  • To design a successor of the oars TGV, by preserving the same security standards, without increase in the costs of construction, able to roll from the start on the current ways;
  • To introduce the concept of motorization distributed , which makes it possible to lower the weight, the energy consumption and the costs of preventive maintenance of the oars;
  • To propose, thanks to this motorization distributed, of the flexible oars (with construction): from 7 to 14 cars (130 to 250 meters for a capacity from 250 to 650 passengers);
  • To exceed the threshold of the 1.000 kilometers in 3 hours.

Technical design

With the difference of the current TGV whose motorization is concentrated on the motor coaches located at each end of the oar, the AGV adopts the principle of the motorization distributed , all the Essieu X which can be driving (on the German oars ICE 3 a bogie on two is motorized). To note that this principle is used on all the oars of the Shinkansen since its beginnings.

This provision makes it possible to gain space: the equipment of traction (Inverter S in particular) being installed under the floor travellers of each car, the cases of end can accommodate passengers. The capacity can go up to 460 seats for a 200 m length oar.

In addition thanks to the converters use of traction IGBT with cooling with synchronous motor water and of with permanent magnets (power ratio/very high weight, about 22kW/t), the AGV would make it possible to reduce the weight (of 430 tons to 395 compared to current TGV.

Market and sale

According to the British review International Railway Gazette , the Italian private company Nuovo Trasporto Viaggiatori would have selected Alstom, rather than Bombardier and Siemens, for its contract of 650 million euros of train at high speed carrying on the delivery of 25 trains each one composed of 11 cars.

Anecdote

The oar of the record of 2007 was made up of the motor coaches of the oar POS N° 4402 framing three trailers of Duplex TGV whose two bogies were replaced by motorized bogies of AGV. The equipment of traction occupied the first level of a car bar modified Duplex.
