Raiden

Raiden (雷電) or Raijin (雷神) is the god of the Tonnerre and the flash S of the Japanese Mythologie. Its name comes from the Japanese word spoke (雷, thunder) and den (電, flash) or jin (神, god). It is often described like a demon striking drum S to create the thunder. According to the tradition, it is Raiden which would be at the origin of the bankruptcy of the attempt at Mongolian invasion of Japan in 1274 whereas it created Kamikaze, the typhoon which stopped the Mongolian projection. He is the companion of Raijû the “animal thunder”.

Raiden enters the Occidental culture with the play of combat Mortal Kombat in which there is a character éponyme.
- Raiden is the code name of one of the main characters of the play Metal GEAR Solid 2: Sounds off Liberty .
- In the play Final Fantasy 6, Raiden is the name of a powerful invocation. In Final Fantasy 8, Raijin and Fujin are both comparses malefic Seifer.
