Raid lacked Nancy
The raid of Nancy of the July 19th 1942 belonged to a vaster operation, the operation " Spring Wind " - it included/understood in France the Rafle of the Cycle-racing track of Winter in Paris - aiming at rafler Jews in several countries of Europe. It aimed at the foreign Jews or stateless people emigrated for the majority of Poland, of Lithuania, of Romania, and Hungary. Edouard Vine grower, chief of the service from abroad to the central police station of Nancy, his assistant Pierre Marie and their five men launched an immense operation allowing the rescue of 367 of the 385 threatened Jews. 18 were stopped.
Historical context
The Germans enter Nancy the June 18th 1940. June 22nd a armistice is signed dividing the country into several zones. Nancy is then integrated in a reserved Zone dedicated into the vital space German.
