Ragnar Lodbrok

Ragnar Lodbrok was a semi-legendary king of Sweden and Denmark, who reigned with the VIII° or IX° century. According to the Danish chronicler Sax Grammaticus, pagan Ragnar did not belong to the Swedish dynasty of the Yngling, because his/her father was Danish, but it forged a destiny by saying direct descendant of the god Odin.

Historical Ragnar Lodbrok was count at the court of Danish king Hårek, who took part in plunderings Viking S of Paris into 845. The soldiers of the army of Charles the Bald person who kept the monastery of Saint-Denis, fled when the Danish Vikings massacred their prisoners in front of their eyes. After the " danegeld" (ransom for the departure of the Vikings) 7000 pounds of money, Ragnar returned to Denmark.

Ragnar probably spent most clearly its time in raids and piracy, invading countries the ones after the others. One of its favorite strategies was to attack Christian cities during religious holidays, since many soldiers were with the church. It agreed to leave its victims only in exchange of an enormous sum, and returned later, while asking even more for its departure. But if one believes of it the supposed extent of his kingdom, it was also a gifted military chief.
