Rafting

the rafting is a Sport which consists in sailing on sections of river comprising of the rapids called running water (descent of Rivière) on board an inflatable raft (often called raft) handled either with the Pagaie by several team-members, with the oar by only one individual, or even exceptionally using engines on very large rivers.

The inflatable rafts conceived for the rafting are insubmersible and very stable, which makes it possible to cross rapids inaccessible to the majority of the boats (except the canoes, the kayaks and the hydros). The great capacity of loading of these boats makes it possible to bring vivres and equipment or to be measured in team with the rapids.

The rafting as a commercial entertaining activity was born on the Colorado river in the United States, in the years 1950. Descents were offered to the tourists and to adventurers and the practice of this activity did not cease extending since. One can now make rafting on all the continents. The raft appeared in France in the years 1980. It is today possible to practice the raft on the whole of the French rivers. Rafting makes it possible to the neophytes to reach running water as of the first blows of paddle. One strolls in freedom, an adventure without large risks to explore the world of the rivers.

International Rafting Federation (IRF), an international sporting federation, organizes championships of running water inflatable rafts. Championships of the joining together world of the teams of more than twenty nationalities, are held every two years on the most beautiful sections of rapids of planet.
