Rafael Moneo

Jose Rafael Moneo Vallés (born in 1937 with Tudela) is a Spanish Architecte.

Biography

Rafael Moneo was born with Tudela in Navarre on May 9th, 1937. It makes its studies with the ETSAM ( Escuela Tecnica Superior de Arquitectura of Madrid ) and in graduate fate in 1961. He works initially in the cabinet of architecture of Francisco Javier Sáenz de Oíza. In 1962, it leaves to Denmark to work with Jørn Utzon. He teaches then architecture, in particular with Harvard, the the United States, but also with the ETSA of Madrid and Barcelona. Its principal achievements are the Palais Villahermosa of Madrid, the Roman museum of Merida, the extension of the railway station of Atocha in Madrid, the factory Diestre Factory of Saragossa. He works much in the United States and builds the Cathédrale Notre-Dame of the angels to Los Angeles, the Davis Art Museum of the Wellesley College (Massachusetts) and the Musée of the fine arts of Houston to the Texas.

He is president of the department of architecture of the graduate School off design of Harvard of 1985 to 1990. He obtains the Prix Pritzker in 1996 and the Prix of the European Union for the contemporary architecture Mies van der Rohe in 2001.
