Rafael Alegria

Rafael Alegria is a Honduran Paysan , originating in Potrerillos, Olancho, which occupied the function of spokesperson of Via Campesina since its creation in 1993, until in 2004.

From 1972 to 1975 works for the UNC in the organization of co-operatives of agricultural production in the department of Olancho. It takes part in the ground recovery and the organization of the peasants in his own village of Potrerillos.

After the massacre of Los Horcones, on June 25th, 1975, he is imprisoned and thereafter must exile himself of his native Olancho. One finds it at the end of the Seventies as member of the agricultural cooperative Bella Vista, in the mountain of Tigra, close to Tegucigalpa, of which he is always president in 2005.
