Radomir Putnik

Radomir Putnik (1847 - 1917) is a Serb Militaire .

Radomir Putnik was born in Serbia with Kragujevac in 1847. It was a veteran of the Balkan Guerres of 1870 and 1880. Its military career started at the Artillery School of Belgrade as a second lieutenant. In 1895, Radomir Putnik took an early withdrawal, but, in 1903, with the accession with the throne of Serbia of Pierre Ier Karađorđević, it was named with the head of the Serb army. In 1906, he becomes the Minister for the War of the Kingdom of Serbia, posts in which he attempted to modernize and organize the army which left victorious the two Balkan wars of 1912 against the Ottoman Empire and that of 1913 against the Bulgaria. In 1912, Radomir Putnik was named Feld-maréchal, first soldier to receive this title in Serbia, and accepted the title of Voïvode.

With the declaration of the First World War, Putnik efficiently organized in August 1914 the defense of the kingdom against the offensive of Potiorek, and this until the complete expulsion of the Austrian troops of the Serb territory (see Campagne of Serbia). Superiority of number of the second offensive of Austria, and this time helped in that by the Bulgarian ones and the German troops of August von Mackensen forced Radomir Putnik and its army with a retirement through the Albania to join the squadron of help of the allied forces. After the complete reorganization of the army Serb with Corfou with the beginning of the year 1916, Radomir Putnik, patient and physically decreased, had to yield its command. It left to be looked after with Nice or it died in May 1917 at the 70 years age.
